Sustainability

The World Curling Sustainability Working Group was created in 2023 with the responsibility to propose strategies, policies, rules and recommendations that empower World Curling and its Member Associations to implement sustainability best practices and actions in alignment with the Federation’s strategic commitments and goals.

The ICE3 2034 Environmental Sustainability Strategy is the first major component produced by the working group and focuses on nine key areas:

  • Infrastructure
  • Ice Making
  • Investments
  • Competition Delivery
  • Calendar of Events
  • Carbon Footprint
  • Equipment Manufacturing
  • Education
  • Engagement

The strategy details the opportunities for World Curling in each of these areas along with strategic outcomes and deliverables for the organisation.

The strategy has been developed to ensure a holistic approach to sustainability throughout the Federation and integrates with the recently announced Global Facilities Certification Programme, ensuring that new and existing curling facilities adhere to high standards of operational excellence, sustainability, and inclusivity. As a foundational component of the Sustainability Strategy, World Curling joined the Sports for Climate Action Framework in 2023 with a commitment to reduce the organisation’s Green House Gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and reach Net Zero Green House Gas emissions by 2040.
