Olympic qualification

Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 will comprise three competitions with ten National Olympic Committees in each – women’s, men’s and mixed doubles.

All three competitions will be played in the Ice Cube – also known as the Beijing National Aquatics Centre.

Women’s and Men’s Qualification

The six highest ranked National Olympic Committees, of the Member Associations of the World Curling Federation, from the 2021 world women’s and world men’s curling championships will qualify for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 team competitions.

In the situation where the Chinese National Olympic Committee teams finish outside of the top six places at these events, it will qualify automatically for the respective Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 team competition through the allocation of the host country quota place.

Member Associations are ranked at the women’s, men’s and mixed doubles world championships according to The Rules of Curling, specifically Rules of Competition, C9. Team Ranking Procedure / Draw Shot Challenge.

Mixed Doubles Qualification

The seven highest ranked National Olympic Committees from the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2021 will qualify for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 mixed doubles competition.

In the situation where the Chinese National Olympic Committee team holds a position amongst the top seven places in this championship, the National Olympic Committee finishing in eighth place will automatically qualify for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 mixed doubles competition.

In the situation where the Chinese National Olympic Committee team finish outside of the top seven places at this event, it will qualify automatically for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 mixed doubles competition through the allocation of the host country quota place.

Qualification events

The top National Olympic Committees as indicated below from the relevant Olympic Qualification Event will secure the remaining qualification places for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.

Women’s and Men’s Qualification Event (three or four teams)

Three or four women’s and men’s teams will qualify from the Olympic Qualification Event 2021 — the number of qualification places available is dependant on China’s final placement at the 2021 world championships.

Mixed Doubles Olympic Qualification Event (two teams)

Two mixed doubles teams will qualify from the Mixed Doubles Olympic Qualification Event 2021. Teams eligible to compete in the Mixed Doubles Qualification Event 2021 are:

Qualified Mixed Doubles Teams

Seven teams qualified for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Mixed Doubles Event based on their final standing at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2021.

Australia and United States qualified from the Olympic Qualification Event 2021 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands and China qualified as host.

Qualified Women’s Teams

Six teams qualified for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Women’s Event based on their final standing at the LGT World Women’s Curling Championship 2021.

Great Britain (Scotland), Japan and Republic of Korea qualified from the Olympic Qualification Event 2021 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands and China qualified as host.

Norway, Italy and Denmark qualified from the Olympic Qualification Event 2021 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands and China qualified as host.
