Mexico and India promoted to World Championship Qualifier

After four days of competition, Mexico and India men’s teams won the final qualification games at the inaugural World Championship Pre-Qualifier (Pan Continental) 2026 in Dumfries, Scotland. As a result, both teams earned promotion to the World Championship Qualifier.

These events have been introduced to the World Curling calendar as part of the new competition structure for the 2026–2030 Olympic cycle.

Due to a lack of entries, there was no women’s event at the World Championship Pre-Qualifier (Pan Continental) 2026.

Six teams took part in the event: Mexico, India, Jamaica, Chinese Taipei and Saudi Arabia. Due to a late withdrawal, Kenya were ruled as Did Not Start (DNS) and therefore forfeited their games.

Mexico emerged as clear leaders following the round robin, finishing first with a five-win, no-loss record. They would face second place Jamaica, who posted three wins and two losses after the round robin, in the first qualification game.

Mexico started strongly, scoring two in the first end and stealing a further single in the second. By the sixth end, they held a healthy 5-1 lead. Jamaica fought back, scoring three in the sixth end and a two in the seventh to take a narrow 6-5 advantage. Mexico had the final say, however, securing their place at the World Championship Qualifier by scoring three in the eighth and final end to win 8-6.

Jamaica still had a second opportunity for qualification when they faced third-placed India, who finished the round robin with three wins and two losses, in qualification game two. A three-point score in the first end put Jamaica on the front foot, and they led 5-3 heading into the sixth end. This end proved decisive, as India scored five points to take an 8-5 lead. With just two ends remaining, Jamaica needed a big response, however were only able to score two in the seventh. India sealed a 9-7 victory and their promotion with a single point in the eighth end.

The Mexico men’s team that has gained promotion to the World Championship Qualifier is skip Diego Tompkins, third Ramy Cohen, second Joaquin Villanueva Figueroa, lead Mateo Tompkins and coach Doug Tompkins.

The India men’s team that has gained promotion to the World Championship Qualifier is skip R.N. Raju, third Girithar Anthay Suthakaran, second Sudheer Reddy and lead Kishan Vasant.
