Slovakia women and Latvia men win gold at European Championships 2025 C-Division

Slovakia women and Latvia men were crowned winners of the European Curling Championships 2025 C-Division after beating Israel 9-2 and Slovenia 10-6 respectively in their gold medal games, in Oestersund, Sweden on Thursday 1 May.

These results mean that Slovakia women and Latvia men will be promoted to the European Curling Championships 2025 B-Division that will take place in Lahti, Finland this November.

Seven women’s and nine men’s teams competed at the Oestersund Curling Club from Saturday (26 April) until Thursday (1 May).

In the women’s competition, Ukraine, Israel, Slovakia and Spain qualified for the semi-finals. In these games, Israel beat Ukraine 7-4, whilst Slovakia were 6-5 winners against Spain, meaning Israel and Slovakia proceeded to the gold medal game.

The women’s final saw Slovakia beat Israel 9-2 to claim the gold medals and promotion to the B-Division. In the bronze medal game, Spain were victorious against Ukraine with a score of 7-3 in seven ends.

In the men’s competition, Slovenia took on Liechtenstein, whilst Latvia played Serbia in the semi-final games. Slovenia beat Liechtenstein by 11-3, and Latvia earned a comfortable 12-0 win over Serbia.

The men’s final saw Latvia claim the gold medals and promotion against Slovenia, with a score of 10-6. Liechtenstein and Serbia played for the bronze medal, in which Liechtenstein were winners, scoring 7-4.

Women’s competition

The gold medal Slovakian team are skip Gabriela Kajanova, third Silvia Sykorova, second Daniela Matulova and lead Linda Haferova, supported by alternate Greta Kapolkova.

The silver medal Israeli team are skip Elana Sone, third Andrea Stark, second Ada Neznamov and lead Helen Pokras.

The bronze medal Spanish team are skip Leyre Torralba Viela, third Elena Torralba Viela, second Nerea Torralba Viela and lead Izaro Saez De Ocariz, supported by alternate Olga Khromchenkova and coach Jose Manuel Sanguesa Anzano.

Men’s competition

The gold medal Latvian team are skip Ritvars Gulbis, third Janis Klive, second Aivars Avotins and lead Sandris Buholcs.

The silver medal Slovenian team are skip Tomas Tisler, third Jure Culic, second Frederic Rouge and lead Gasper Ursic, supported by alternate Jakob Omerzel and coach Verbinc Gregor Verbinc.

The bronze medal Liechtenstein team are skip Lukas Matt, third Peter Prasch, second Mauro Liesch and lead Harald Sprenger, supported by alternate Christian Sprenger and coach Brigitte Brunner.
