Korea had earned their play-off spot at the end of Day 5, and played England on Thursday afternoon. Korea were leading by 4-2 at the break, but England put an excellent performance on the ice in the second half, scored three in the eighth end and won, 7-5.

Afterwards, England skip Stewart Pimblett said, “I think I’m gonna wake up from this dream soon. Amazing game to play in. We went down in the first couple of ends, but we shook spirit every time. I think we’ve got something special building here. For a new team, we like to have fun to be honest, and we are best friends. Amazing achievement for us to stay up in the worlds.”

In the morning, England had had a tough loss against Japan. In that game, England were the ones being ahead at the break (4-0), but Japan switched gears and won, 7-4.

In the evening, Korea played Japan, who still had their play-off hopes alive. Korea won that game, 7-3, mostly due to four back-to-back single steals.

In the evening’s last round-robin session Canada had an important game against Italy, both teams still having play-off chances. Canada dominated that game and won, 9-3, in six ends and secured their play-off spot.

Afterwards, Canada skip Gil Dash summed up their round-robin performance, “We are happy with our playing, we’re feeling really good, we were loose coming into this last round-robin game. All of the players are shooting really well right now. We’re feeling really good going into the next games here.”

Title-holders Norway were in close play-off contention when they met Scotland in the morning. The teams were tied at 1-1 at the break, but Norway managed to come out on top, 5-2, mostly due to a score of two in the sixth.

Afterwards, Norway skip Jostein Stordahl said, “It started very equal playing, one-one up to the break, so very low points. And then Scotland got one ahead, then we had to turn our tactic and had to get two points and we managed to do that. And the last end, the ice was very difficult. My second-last stone, it was a very difficult guard situation, so it overcurled, and Scotland had the opportunity to hit the shot. They did. And then there was a perfect opportunity for me to hit the shot and then roll behind some guards. I managed to do that with a hard take-out and we got one point to win the game.”

Due to this win and other results in the session, Norway secured their play-off spot.

Talking about that, he added, “I’m very happy. This was our main goal. First, we had to qualify, so we’re very satisfied. Then, from there on, we are a strong team and we hope to get a medal in the end.”

In the afternoon, the Norwegians met Slovakia. The Slovaks had an exceptional game and won, 9-1, in six ends. Afterwards, their lead Monika Kunkelova said, “We approached this game with great humility, because we were playing the world champions. The ice was very good. I’m very happy and very excited.”

Paralympic silver medallists Sweden were determined to pick up two wins on Thursday and qualify for the play-offs. First, they needed a win against Latvia in the morning. They showed great form and won by 9-2 in seven ends. Already with this win, they secured their place in the play-offs.

After the game, their skip Viljo Petersson-Dahl said, “I feel very good! I’m so satisfied with my teammates. I think we came out on top and continued playing good. So it was a really good game from us.”

In the afternoon, the Swedes played United States. That game went all the way to an extra end, and eventually Sweden won, 8-6.
