World Curling appoints new Media Officer

World Curling is pleased to announce the appointment of Shona Ironside as the new Media Officer.

Ironside, from Aberdeen, Scotland, earned her bachelor’s degree in media with honours from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in 2021. During her time at university, she worked as the Media and Content Manager for her local rugby club Aberdeen Grammar Rugby where she found a passion for sports communications, marketing and content creation.

Following a placement with Scottish Rugby as part of her university studies, Ironside returned to the company full time after graduating to work within the Media and Communications team.

At Scottish Rugby, Ironside worked as Media Manager for the Scotland Men’s U20 team, managing and leading all media activity for the team through two Six Nations campaigns and two World Rugby U20 Trophy competitions. She also delivered the media activity of the Super Series, the part-time professional competition that ended earlier this year.

Most recently, Ironside worked with the Commonwealth Games Scotland media team, assisting with media content delivery during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Working in sport is very important to me and I am delighted that I can continue this at World Curling. I am looking forward to making my impact on the World Curling’s media team, helping promote the sport and engage the curling community all around the world,” said Ironside.

World Curling’s Head of Communications and Marketing, Christopher Hamilton said, “I’m delighted to welcome Shona into the team as our new Media Officer. It was clear to me straight away how passionate Shona was about sport and how enthusiastic she was to use our communications tools to grow and promote curling.

“Shona’s international media experience will be a great benefit to us as we increase our engagement and build the awareness of curling to the wider sports community in the lead up to Milano Cortina 2026.”

Ironside began her role on Monday 16 September 2024.
