Norway take bronze medals at World Mixed Doubles

Norway beat Switzerland by 6-5 on Saturday morning, to take the bronze medals at the World Mixed Doubles Championship 2024.

Norway opened with last-stone advantage and took an early 1-0 lead in the first end.

Then, in the second, Switzerland’s Briar Schwaller-Huerlimann could only score one point rather than the two she was looking for, when her hit-and-roll attempt went too far.

In the fourth end, with Norway now ahead by 2-1, Switzerland had a chance to score three but had to settle for two when their hit was a little off angle.

The teams then went into the fifth end with Switzerland holding a 3-2 lead, but, in that end, Norway’s Kristin Skaslien was able to score three points with power-play, to take a 5-3 lead.

Norway threw away their last stone in the seventh end, to give up a single steal for 5-5, but crucially hang on to last stone for the eighth end.

In that eighth end, Skaslien drew her last stone to the button against three Swiss stones in the house to score one and take a 6-5 win.

After a bronze medal they won in 2015 and a silver they took in 2021, this is a third World Mixed Doubles medal for Kirstin Skaslien and her husband Magnus Nedregotten. They also won two Olympic medals together, a bronze in 2018 and a silver in 2022.

After the game, Magnus Nedregotten said, “It feels very good, it’s such a relief to see that we can play the last game in the fashion that we did, so we’re super proud of how we focussed on our tasks.”

Kristin Skaslien added, “It’s hard to come back after a loss in the semi-final.”
