Beau Welling re-elected as World Curling President for additional four-year term

World Curling members have re-elected Beau Welling, (United States) as the World Curling President for another four-year term at the Annual General Assembly being held in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Welling was re-elected with 75% of the vote for his second term as World Curing President.

Following his election he said, “This means the world to me. To have the trust of the World Curling Family to go forward for another four years really means a lot. It’s also a responsibility, but I take that on.

“I look forward to working with everyone to leverage our exposure from the success of the Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games. I feel like curling has arrived and we need to take a big leap forward in the development of the sport to spread our mission and our values around the world.”

During the Assembly, World Curling members also elected three World Curling Board Directors to four-year terms. The elected Board Directors are:

Robin Niven (Scotland)
Karen Wauters (Luxembourg)
Roselle Gonsalves (Canada)

Niven from Scotland was re-elected to the first Board Director position in the first round of voting with 54% of the vote.

Wauters from Luxembourg was elected to the second Board Director position after three rounds of voting with 57% of the vote.

Gonsalves from Canada was elected to the third Board Director position after three rounds of voting with 56% of the vote.

Membership also voted to confirm Harri Lill to a position on the Board following his election as the Athlete Commission Chair in May 2026.

Member Association Updates

The Argentina Curling Association and Singapore Curling Association progressed from Conditional to Provisional Membership.

At the same time, the Curling Federation of Turkmenistan were suspended as a Member Association due to non-payment of subscriptions.

Hall of Fame Ceremony

During the General Assembly, György Nagy was presented with his Freytag Award and formally inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Decisions taken

The World Curling Health and Wellbeing Commission was formalised by the members and was raised from its previous existence as a working group.

Updates to the World Curling Classification Rules were approved, including clarification on the Minimum Impairment Criteria. The new classification rules come into effect in October 2026.

The assembly formally confirmed the acceptance of the new World Curling Anti-Doping rules to remain complaint with the 2027 WADA Anti-Doping Code coming into effect on 1 January 2027.
