World Curling appoints new Media Officer
World Curling is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Payne as the new Media Officer.
Payne earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Journalism from the University of Gloucestershire. During his time at university, he worked with Bristol City Football Club, first gaining the experience of covering live sport.
After leaving university, Payne worked in NHS communications at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, learning key media and communications skills.
He then spent three-and-a-half years within the media and communications team at Norwich City Football Club. Joining as Club Journalist in October 2022, he covered live professional sport and produced editorial and social media content. He progressed into the role of Club Journalist and Programme Editor, taking on responsibility of the club’s matchday programme.
Most recently, Ryan has been working as a freelance journalist and content editor with the likes of Manchester United Football Club and Millwall Football Club.
“Having worked in professional football, I’m excited to start a new challenge in an international sporting environment. I’m looking forward to playing my part in helping the profile of the sport and reaching new and existing audiences,” Payne said.
World Curling’s Head of Communications and Marketing, Christopher Hamilton said, “I’m delighted to welcome Ryan into the media team as Media Officer. His passion for sport was apparent from our first conversation and it was great to see how enthusiastic he is about helping to grow the sport using media and communication.
“Ryan’s experience in covering live sport will be a great benefit to the team as we continue to increase our engagement with audiences around the world. We’re looking forward to seeing Ryan bring his ideas and experience to World Curling.”
Payne began his role on Monday 7 September 2026.
