Sports Media Trainee Programme winners selected


Six applicants have been selected as the winners of World Curling’s Sports Media Trainee Programme for the 2024-2025 curling season. This will be the programme’s ninth year running, with previous winners going on to work in sports at various levels including the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as working for International Sporting Federations. 

Applicants aged 18-35 from around the world applied for one of two positions – Photographer or Communications Assistant. Winners were selected and interviewed via an anonymous panel of media experts. 

Winners

The following photographers will receive training on how to capture curling, compose and edit photos, work through their photo selection and additional related skills.

– Raleigh Emerson (United States)
– Ladjánszki Máté (Budapest)
– Sarah Boeke (United States)

The following communication assistants will create content for various social media platforms, interview athletes, write game reports and pitch/write feature stories for the World Curling website.

– Rachel Pitts (New Zealand) 
– Josephine Struckmeier (Germany)
– Callum Penman (Scotland)

The trainees will join the World Curling Media Team at the following events: 

1. World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2024 in Oestersund, Sweden (20-27 April 2024)

2. Pan Continental Curling Championships 2024, Lacombe, Canada (27 October – 2 November 2024)

3. Le Gruyere AOP European Curling Championships 2024 – TBD

4. World Junior Curling Championships 2025 – TBD

About the Sports Media Trainee Programme

The Sports Media Trainee Programme is designed to give aspiring young sports content creators and photographers from around the world the opportunity to gain valuable media experience at international sporting events.

The work of the trainees will be published not only on the World Curling website and social media but may also feature reach mainstream media publications.

This unique opportunity gives young media driven individuals the chance to develop journalistic or photography skills in a practical setting, providing them with vital knowledge and experience which will help them progress prospective careers within the media industry.

Entries are taken from those between the ages of 18-35 with a passion for sport and a keen interest in writing or photography.
