Saturday’s World Women’s play-off matchups set

With all six play-off qualification places already decided on Thursday, Friday’s last day of round-robin play determined the final rankings for the qualification and semi-final games

Table-toppers Canada followed up an 8-2 win over Scotland with a 5-6 loss to Korea. Despite this loss, these results confirmed the Canadians in first place with a direct spot in the semi-final on Saturday (23 March) at 17:00.

Meanwhile, defending champions Switzerland finished their round-robin campaign with two wins – beating Italy by 6-2 and then Sweden by 4-2 – to finish second overall and take the other direct semi-final slot.

Going into the play-off games, Switzerland skip Silvana Tirinzoni said, “I feel very comfortable. The team has played well throughout the whole event, even though we lost two – the other teams have the right to play well as well!”

Italy recovered from their loss to Switzerland with a 10-8 win over Japan in their evening game, thanks to an extra end steal. With these results, they finished on the same 10-2 record as Switzerland.

Korea, who had beaten Denmark by 9-5 before their victory over Canada, also shared the same 10-2 record, but lost to both Switzerland and Italy, leaving them in fourth place.

Sweden ended the round robin in fifth place after their loss to Switzerland, while Denmark landed in sixth.

On Saturday, Canada will face the winners of Korea versus Sweden in the semi-final, while Switzerland will await the winner of Italy against Denmark. Both qualification games will take place at 11:00.

Behind the qualifiers, in descending order from seventh, were United States, Scotland, Norway, Türkiye, Japan, Estonia and New Zealand.

Times are ADT (GMT-3).
