Korea win World Women’s bronze

Korea’s Gim Eunji made a double takeout to score three points and win the BKT World Women’s Curling Championship bronze medals against Italy, 6-3.

This was a third world medal for the Korean Federation, and a first for Gim.

After a blank opening end, Italy’s skip Stefania Constantini opened the scoring in the second end with a delicate tap-back to score one point.

The third end was blanked and then, in the fourth Korea attempted to hit and stay for two, but her shooter rolled out, getting just a single.

In the fifth end, Italy’s Constantini scored another single point with a draw, to go back into the lead, at 2-1. Then, in the sixth Korea made a break-through when Gim played a draw to score two points and take the lead for the first time in the game, at 3-2.

Italy blanked the seventh end then Constantini played a raised to score one point in the eighth and level the game at 3-3.  After another blank end in the ninth, Gim played a double in the tenth end for a 6-3 win.

After this win Gim said, “personally, this is my fifth world championship and my first medal, so I’m very happy about that.”

And she acknowledged the key role her score of two in the sixth end had played in her victory, saying, “the ice conditions definitely were a bit different. We were struggling and our opponents were as well. But we kept going and were patient. We got the two and that led to our victory.”

The Korean bronze medal team consist of: Gim Eunji (skip), Kim Minji (third), Kim Suji (second), Seol Yeeun (lead), Seol Yeji (alternate) and Shin Dongho (coach).
