Slovakia, Estonia and Italy qualify for World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2024

Following the medal games at the World Wheelchair-B Curling Championship in Lohja, Finland, the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2024 field is complete. The three medallists – Slovakia, who won gold against Estonia in the final, and Italy who defeated Poland for bronze have secured their spot at the World Championship in Gangneung, Korea from 2-9 March 2024.

Slovakia faced Italy in the semi-final and defeated them, 7-2, to qualify for the gold medal final, while Estonia beat Poland, 9-2 in their semi.

In the gold medal game, Estonia opened with two points and held a 3-2 lead after four ends. But a strong second half by Slovakia, helped by a score of four in the seventh end, resulted in an 8-4 victory for Slovakia.

In the bronze medal game, Italy got off to an early 4-0 lead after two ends. Poland responded with three in the third, but gave three right back to the Italians, making it 7-3 for Italy after four ends. Poland had a strong seventh end, where they stole three points, closing the gap 8-7 in favour of Italy. In the final end, Italy scored a single point to win, 9-7, and secure their World Championship spot and the bronze medal.

Gold (Slovakia): Skipped by Peter Zatko, third Radoslav Duris, second Dusan Pitonak, lead Monika Kunkelova, supported by alternate Adrian Durcek and coached by Daniela Matulova.

Silver (Estonia): Skipped by Ain Villau who throws second stones, fourth Katlin Riidebach, third Mait Matas, lead Andrei Koitmae, supported by alternate Signe Falkenberg and coached by Aleksander Andre.

Bronze (Italy): Skipped by Egidio Marchese, third Fabrizio Bich, second Matteo Ronzani, lead Orietta Berto, supported by alternate Angela Menardi and coached by Roberto Maino.
