16 teams to compete for BKT World Men’s Curling Championship qualification in Aberdeen

16 teams will travel to Aberdeen, Scotland, for the World Championship Qualifier Men 2026 from November 8–13.

This event will allow teams to qualify for the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship 2027 (WMCC), which will be held in Saint John, Canada, in April.

Teams are divided into two groups and play a round robin within their group. The teams ranked first and second in each group play the Semi-Final (A1vB2 and A2vB1). Winners will advance to the Gold Medal game, losers will play in the Bronze Medal game. The four Member Associations (MAs) of the teams involved in the Semi-Finals will all qualify for the WMCC.

As we transition to the new World Ladder system and need six MAs to qualify from this event to the WMCC, qualification games will be played to find the last two qualifying MAs:

• A3vB3 – winner qualifies their MA for the WMCC
• A4vB4 – loser is eliminated
• Loser of A3vB3 plays winner of A4vB4 – winner qualifies their MA for the WMCC

Teams ranked seventh and eighth in each group will be relegated.

Group A:

• Austria – Mathias Genner
• Denmark – Jacob Schmidt
• Spain – Mikel Unanue
• Hong Kong China – Jason Chang
• Kazakhstan – Abylaikhan Zhuzbay
• Mexico – Diego Tompkins
• Norway – Magnus Ramsfjell
• Türkiye – Ugurcan Karagoz

Group B:

• Australia – Hugh Millikin
• Belgium – Timothy Verreycken
• India – Penumetcha Narasimha Raju
• Latvia – Arnis Veldemanis
• Netherlands – Wouter Gösgens
• New Zealand – Anton Hood
• Philippines – Marc Pfister
• Slovenia – Stefan Sever

The six teams who qualify will join teams who qualified from the previous World Championship. The following Member Associations have already qualified for the WMCC: Sweden, Canada, Scotland, United States, Switzerland, Italy, China, Japan, Germany, Korea, Czechia, and Poland.

Round-robin play will begin on Sunday 8 November at 10:00 and continue until the afternoon of Thursday 12 November. The semi-finals will take place at 19:00 the same day.

The medal and qualification games will be played the next day, on Friday 13 November, at 09:00 and 15:00 respectively.
