World Curling Federation appoints two new staff members

The World Curling Federation is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Callan as Development Officer and Head of Ice Services and Derek Goodwin as Information & Digital Technology Officer.

Mark Callan has been involved in ice-making for more than 30 years, working at events for the World Curling Federation. He worked at three Winter Olympic Games and two Paralympic Games as well as numerous world, European and Pacific-Asia championships. 

For the last 11 years he has been working for Kay’s Curling in Scotland as their Sales and Technical Services Director, combining that with work for the World Curling Federation.

World Curling Federation Head of Development Scott Arnold said, “Mark has been an integral member of the World Curling Academy Advisory Group since its inception and to now have him as a team member at the World Curling Federation means so much.

“His knowledge of ice and stones is second to none and as a trained educator for the Academy, he will be able to work full-time with our Member Associations to share his wisdom.”

Mark Callan, newly appointed World Curling Federation Development Officer and Head of Ice Services said, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the World Curling Federation on a full-time basis as a Development Officer and become the Head of Ice Services. 

“I am looking forward to the challenge of this new role as I will still be involved in events as an ice technician as well as furthering the development and role out of the World Curling Academy ice technician courses.”

Derek Goodwin has worked in information technology for 35 years with experience in retail and wealth management industries amongst others.

World Curling Federation Head of Communications and Marketing Christopher Hamilton said, “We are thrilled to bring Derek on board to help us enhance the Federation’s information technology and digital platforms. He has significant experience in the industry that we believe will be a great benefit to the future of the Federation.”

Newly appointed World Curling Federation Information & Digital Technology Officer Derek Goodwin said, “I am delighted to join the team and looking forward to helping grow World Curling. As a technology geek, I look forward to applying my talents on the ice!”

World Curling Federation Secretary General Colin Grahamslaw said, “I am delighted to be able to welcome Mark and Derek to the WCF team. They bring a wealth of experience in their fields and will assist the Federation in delivering high class services to our members.”
