Lohja, Finland to host 2027 World Wheelchair Curling Championships
The Kisakallio Campus in Lohja, Finland — the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center of the Sports Institute of Three Campuses — has been awarded the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2027 and the World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2027.
These two events increase the events being held in partnership with the organisers in Lohja to five during the 2026–2027 season, following the previous announcement of the initial three events.
The World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2027 will take place from 20–27 February.
The World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2027 will be held from 1–8 March.
World Curling’s Head of Competitions Eeva Röthlisberger said, “We are pleased to work with our partners in Lohja once again to host two more of our world championships in the 2026–2027 season.
“The local organisers have managed a large number of our events over the years and we have the ultimate confidence in their ability to host multiple of our elite events in the same season.”
Jenni Korhonen, Local Organising Committee Event Coordinator said, “We are proud to continue developing Kisakallio Campus and Lohja as an international curling destination together with World Curling. Hosting multiple world championship events within a single season is a fantastic opportunity for our campus, our staff, and the local community.
“What makes this season particularly exciting is the competition pathway it creates. The top three teams from the World Wheelchair-B Curling Championship in November will qualify for the World Wheelchair Curling Championship taking place here in Lohja later in the season. This gives spectators and the local community a unique opportunity to follow athletes on their journey from qualification to the highest level of world championship competition.
“We warmly welcome all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and supporters to Lohja for this exceptional curling season.”
Local Organising Committee President, Lauri Ikavalko said, “The upcoming season is incredibly exciting, and we are all looking forward to it. Our collaboration with World Curling, which has now lasted for more than 15 years, is taking another major step forward as we host a record-breaking five events in Finland, all in Lohja.
“Three of these events are World Championships, making the season even more exciting and significant. We’re delighted that the scheduling has finally come together, and we can’t wait to experience what will be a truly unprecedented curling season.”
