Sweden are LGT World Men’s 2026 champions
“They were just making everything under the sun and we were chasing the whole game.”
That was how Canadian skip Matt Dunstone summed up the performance of his opponents in Saturday afternoon’s gold medal final, as Sweden’s Niklas Edin powered his way to an eighth world title, beating Canada by 11–6.

And he was not wrong. Sweden opened with last stone advantage and used it in the first end, to open the scoring with two points through a raise take-out by their skip Edin.
They then forced Canada to play a nose-hit for just one point in the second end before Edin took the chance to draw for two more points in the third, to move onto a 4–1 lead.

Canada blanked the fourth end, then their skip Matt Dunstone played a raise take-out to score two in the fifth. This took them into the break just one point down on the Swedes, who held a 4–3 lead.
Sweden never lost the lead throughout the whole game, and they moved further ahead in the sixth end, when Edin played a take-out for two taking the score to 6–3.
Dunstone then played a raise take-out to score two points in the seventh to once again reduce the Swedish lead — this time to 6–5. However, in the next end, Edin played a draw into the four-foot ring to score two points and improve to an 8–5 lead.

In the ninth, Canada were facing three Swedish counters when Dunstone drew onto the button to score just one point. This gave Sweden an 8–6 lead and they went on to win by 9–6 without having to play their last stone of the tenth end.
Afterwards, a happy Edin said, “We were very disappointed after the Olympics, so I feel we had a monkey on our backs going into this week. We had to prove to ourselves that we can still curl at a high level. I think we played amazing, keeping our cool and staying ahead in these two play-off games.”

He added, “I’m super proud of this team. I think we found our groove and confidence again.”
Meanwhile, Canada’s Dunstone said, “It’s unfortunate, we wanted to put a little more pressure on them. It just wasn’t meant to be for us today.”
He added, “We battled out there and we beat two great teams in the play-offs to get to the final. I’m just proud of this group and proud of the results we put together and the way we carried ourselves.”
Sweden’s gold medal winning team are: skip, Niklas Edin; third, Oskar Eriksson; second, Rasmus Wranaa; lead, Christoffer Sundgren; alternate, Simon Olofsson; and coach, Alexander Lindstrom.
