Scotland win bronze at LGT World Men’s Curling Championship 2026

With a final scoreline of 11–6, Scotland beat United States on Saturday morning at the LGT World Men’s Curling Championship 2026 to claim bronze medals in what, for this team, was a first-ever worlds appearance.

The Scots came out firing from the start and scored three points in the opening end, when their skip Ross Whyte played a split at the front of the house to leave three of his stones in scoring position, for a 3-0 lead.

The Americans responded in the second end, when Scotland’s Whyte could not remove an American stone with a double attempt, United States skip John Shuster had a nose-hit to score two points and reduce the Scottish lead to 3–2.

However, the Scots then had a draw for two points in the third to improve their lead to 5–2. The Americans responded again and scored two more points in the fifth end after an umpire’s measure, to get back to within one point of the Scots, trailing 5–4. Whyte then had a complete miss in the fifth, to give the Americans an unexpected single-point steal and put the teams into the break level at 5–5.

The Scots blanked the sixth end, then a nose-hit by Whyte gave them two points from the seventh end and a 7–5 lead.

The Americans then had a chance to clear out Scottish stones and score two in the eighth, but Shuster’s final attempt was too square and they had to settle for just one point, reducing the Scottish lead again, this time to 7–6.

In the ninth end, Shuster’s final freeze attempt bounced a little and this left enough air for Whyte to clear it out and leave four of his own stones in counting positions. This moved the score onto 11–6, and the Americans conceded.

Afterwards, a delighted Scottish skip Ross Whyte said, “Obviously, we had a lot of disappointment after last night’s semi, but to come back out firing — we knew that we wanted to bring home a medal and to get on the podium for all our fans who have travelled here and at home, so we’re really pleased.

“It felt like the boys were setting me up really well. We’re really pleased with how we’ve performed this week, and would love to be back at a worlds. It was very disappointing last night, but to be honest, coming home with medals feels really good.”

The bronze medal-winning Scotland team is: skip, Ross Whyte; third, Robin Brydone; second, Craig Waddell; lead, Euan Kyle; alternate, Duncan McFadzean; and coach, Alistair Scott.

All LGT World Men’s games will be broadcast on the Curling Channel, however, there may be restrictions due to broadcast partner agreements.
