Sweden win bronze at BKT World Women’s Curling Championship 2026
With an 8-5 victory over Japan, Sweden won the bronze medals at the BKT World Women’s Curling Championship 2026 in Calgary, Canada on Sunday (22 March) morning.
This started out as a tight game, with the teams swapping singles for the first four ends.

The first break-through for Sweden came in the fifth end when, with the score at 2-2, Japan skip Fujisawa Satsuki missed on a double take-out attempt to give Sweden a steal of one and a 3-2 lead at the fifth-end break.
Japan then levelled at 3-3 in the sixth — this time Fujisawa was successful with her double take-out to score one point.

Sweden then blanked the seventh end and, in the eighth, built up a big collection of stones in the house. Eventually, with her last stone, Sweden skip Isabella Wranaa was able to play a promote tap-out on a Japan stone to score a game-changing five points and take an 8-3 lead.
Japan responded in the ninth end, when a nose-hit by Fujisawa gave them another two points, reducing the Swedish lead to 8-5. However, knowing they wouldn’t be able to catch up, Japan then conceded the game.
Speaking afterwards, Sweden’s skip Isabella Wranaa said, “We’re just so happy. Our main goal this week was to get a medal — of course we would have wanted to be in the final, but we’re very proud of our game today and taking home the bronze medal.”

And, speaking about the impressive eighth end, she added, “I felt like I didn’t want to open up too much, because I thought we had a pretty good set-up and I wanted to keep our stones in the house for my last. Then I had a great chance for five.”
“I’m very, very proud of my team. They have been playing so well all week. We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’ve learned and always came back stronger.”

The Swedish bronze medal winning team are: Isabella Wranaa (skip), Almida de Val (third), Maria Larsson (second), Linda Stenlund (lead), Moa Dryburgh (alternate), Vincent Stenberg (coach) and Maria Prytz (national coach).
Canada will face Switzerland for gold and the BKT World Women’s title this afternoon (Sunday 22 March) at 15.00.
The World Women’s Gold Medal game will be broadcast on the Curling Channel, however, there may be restrictions due to broadcast partner agreements.
