The two wheelchair mixed doubles curling semi-finals took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Paralympic Winter Games. People’s Republic of China played Latvia, while Republic of Korea met United States of America.

Team china versus Latvia

Team China were leading, 4-1, after three ends, scoring two points each time with hammer. In the fourth end, Latvia called for Power Play, hoping to score multiple points. However, Polina Rozkova was heavy with her last stone and Team China stole two for a 6-1 lead at halftime.

Latvia scored a single in the fifth to reduce their deficit, 6-2. Team China used their Power Play in the sixth, but Wang Meng’s take-out couldn’t remove the shot Latvian stone from scoring position and Latvia stole a single.

In the seventh, Team China scored two, and in the eighth, they ran Latvia out of stones. With their 8-3 win, Team China is the first team to reach the final of the wheelchair mixed doubles event at Milano Cortina 2026.

After their win, Team China’s Yang Jinqiao said, “This is my first Paralympic final, so this is very meaningful to me. I hope tomorrow we will play even better than today.”

His teammate, Wang Meng added, “For me, it means another chance to achieve my dream! Our team works well because of our great communication and our coach helps us a lot as well. We encourage each other all the time and we have great trust in each other.”

Team Korea versus United States

Team Korea stole two in the first end, when Laura Dwyer’s tap-back attempt was unsuccessful. Team Korea forced Team United States to score single points with hammer in the first half, and were leading, 4-2 at halftime.

United States called for Power Play in the sixth, and had four stones in scoring position before the last two stones of the end. However, Baek Hyejin played a perfect draw with her last, and Laura Dwyer couldn’t remove it with hers. This single steal meant a 6-2 Korean lead after six ends. Eventually, Team Korea ran Team United States out of stones and won, 6-3.

Afterwards, Korea’s Lee Yongsuk said, “It is my first Paralympics, and the fact that we reached the final makes me very emotional. But as the final is coming up, I try to control myself. But I’m thrilled!”

His teammate, Baek Hyejin added, “It is very meaningful that we have reached this historic final! But we are still having one more game, so I try not to be too emotional.”

The medal games will be held on Wednesday at 14:35. Latvia and Team United States will play for bronze, while Team China and Team Korea will battle for the Paralympic champions title.

On Wednesday, two wheelchair mixed team draws will be held as well. One at 9:05, one at 20:05.
