Isabella Wranaa: Riding Olympic high into World Women’s

Just over a month ago, Sweden’s Isabella Wranaa reached the top of the biggest podium in curling when she and her brother Rasmus won Olympic gold, beating United States of America by 6-5 in the mixed doubles Gold Medal final at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

Now, she is battling twelve other teams at the BKT World Women’s Curling Championship 2026 as she skips her team in Calgary, looking to add world medals to her already impressive collection.

An unforgettable February

So, how does she manage the gear change?

First of all, she reflected on her Olympic experience.

“Olympic champion? It sounds unreal and a great feeling — I’m eager for more,” she said.

Thinking more about it, she added, “It was pure joy. We had some of our family there to support us and it was very nice to have that moment together with them.”

An Olympians impact back home

Isabella and Rasmus had already been world champions together, having won the 2024 title in Oestersund, Sweden, so she is in a position to compare the Olympic champion and world champion experience.

She explained, “[The Olympics is] a bigger competition and a bigger stage — a lot of athletes dream of being in those finals.”

And she made a key point about her Olympic win and the impact gained from curling’s involvement in the Olympic Winter Games, “It’s been full in the curling rinks back home and we’ve gained a lot of young fans, so we hope that this will bring more people into curling.”

She also admitted that it’s been a bit of a whirlwind since her win.

“We’ve been celebrated for sure and in all sorts of different environments… we‘ve been to basketball games, and we’ve been celebrated at the biggest mall we have in Stockholm, so it’s been fun.”

In the zone for Calgary

Now — for the moment at least — all of the Olympic commotion is behind her as she concentrates on team duties.

She explained, “I had two weeks at home, so we started practising pretty early when I got back, and then we went to Calgary and had another practice week here. I’m zoned in on the team now.”

As her team is going through their round-robin programme, they are proving to be strong competitors, so it looks like Isabella has made a good job of her transition into her team role.

“I feel like we’re playing really well,” she said when asked to rate their performance.

When looking back on all that has happened and all she has achieved over the last few months, an obvious question is… “would you change any of this?”

Isabella’s answer is simple: “Not at all, I like it!”.
