Czechia and Republic of Korea add their second victories at Olympic Winter Games
If you can win one game at the Olympic Winter Games, why not win two?
That was the case for both Czechia and Republic of Korea who came onto the ice for Sunday morning’s tenth mixed doubles round-robin session after achieving their first victories the previous day.
Czechia faced Norway and opened their account with a score of one in the first end when Julie Zelingrova drew her final stone inside three Norway stones. The Czechs added to their score in the third end with two more points, thanks to another draw by Zelingrova. A single steal from the fourth end gave Czechia a 4-1 lead at the break. After this, the teams swapped singles and Czechia finished with a 6-3 win.

Speaking afterwards, a delighted Vit Chabicovsky said, “We felt really confident and were very good today.
“I think there was a little bit of relief that we already got that first win, but it gave us the challenge of having to re-group and think of this game as an important game as well.”
He added, “I think two wins now means that we deserve to be here, which I’m happy about. That could have gone either way, I’m glad that we handled it pretty well. Maybe we’ll get some more wins now.”

In the other game of this session, Republic of Korea faced Estonia. The Koreans opened with a bang, scoring three in the first end when Kim Seonyeong was successful with a double take-out. Republic of Korea then added a steal of two points in the second end when Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee’s draw was not accurate enough.
Estonia got on the scoreboard with a single point in the third using their Power Play, but, in the fourth end, Kim was able to draw for two more points and a 7-1 halfway lead.

A further score of two in the sixth end when Kim cleared out Estonia’s counters was enough to secure a 9-3 win for Republic of Korea.
After this win, Kim said, “The result itself is good, but it’s more that we were able to perform better there and that’s what really matters. Every opponent we face, we treat them just as opponents.
“We were a little concerned about Estonia, but we just played our game. We were able to do that in an Olympic space and that makes us really happy.”

Jeong Yeongseok added, “Besides our results, we are delighted to have the Olympic experience, and I think it’s all making us better curling players and better people.”
All four teams involved in this session now share the same won two, lost five record at the foot of the table.
