Italy win mixed doubles bronze at Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games

Italy’s Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner are back on the Olympic mixed doubles medal podium after they beat Great Britain 5-3 in the bronze medal game.

In the first end, Great Britain had last stone advantage in which Jennifer Dodds had a chance to tap-back and open the scoring with three points. However, she misjudged the angle which resulted in a steal of one for Italy.

The Brits had another chance for a multiple score in the second end, but again Dodds’s angle was wrong on an in-off attempt and had to settle for just one point to level the game at 1-1.

In the third end, good British build-up play forced Italy’s Stefania Constantini to draw for just one point and a 2-1 lead.

Dodds attempted a long raise of a front guard in the fourth end, but it was unsuccessful and Italy gained another single steal and a 3-1 lead.

The fifth end saw the build up of a busy house, with Great Britain lying shot. When Dodds came to play her last stone, she threw it away, content to score one from the end and reduce the Italian lead to 3-2.

Great Britain built up a collection around the button in the sixth end so that when Italy’s Stefania Constantini came to play her last stone, the Brits were counting three. Constantini then played a draw inside all of them, to score one point and move Italy into a 4-2 lead.

Power Play was called by Great Britain in the seventh end and eventually, Dodds attempted a weighted double take-out across the house. She missed the second target and had to settle for a single point to reduce Italy’s lead to 4-3 going into the last end.

Italy had last stone advantage in the eighth end. With her last stone, Jen Dodds had no other option than to draw to the centre of the button, leaving a simple shot for Italy. Stefania Constantini played a precise hit-and-stay for the single point, and Italy won 5-3.

After their bronze win, Italy’s Stefania Constantini said, “I think this Olympic field was at a really, really high level and we definitely had a tough time out there. We did a great job in re-setting to be able to play our best performance.

“We tried to do our best, even if we weren’t at our best. I think we did great and today we did something special to end this competition.”

Meanwhile her partner Amos Mosaner said, “We started in a good way with a steal of one in the first end, and we tried to keep it close on the scoreboard and I think we managed that in a good way. At the end, two up with the Power Play, Stefania made a super shot — the key shot in that end.”

Mindful that they are both now involved in the team competition which gets underway on Wednesday, Stefania said, “Now we will go and have fun with our families and friends who have been here supporting us, then tomorrow will be another day.”

For their part, a subdued British duo spoke later.

Jennifer Dodds said, “It was a tight game. We had chances and we didn’t really capitalise on them. But it was a lot stronger performance than last night and the Italians played really well, so congrats to them on getting the bronze medals.”

This was the second time that this British pairing had finished fourth in mixed doubles Olympic competition, and, addressing that Bruce Mouat said, “We just feel exactly the same as last time. We’ll just have to bounce back like we did last time — we just need to draw a line under that.”
