World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship set to return to Edmonton, Canada

The World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship will return to the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Canada from 5–10 May 2026.

The Saville Community Sports Centre is a 350,000 square foot multi-sport recreation facility, managed and operated by the University of Alberta, that played host to the inaugural World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship last season where Italy emerged as the champions.

Eeva Röthlisberger, World Curling Head of Competitions, said, “The first World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was such a huge success, and we’re thrilled to be returning to Edmonton to work with a local organising committee that provided such a fantastic event last year.

“The importance of this event to our junior curlers can’t be understated and has the potential to grow even greater in the coming months. Despite only being in its second year, the International Olympic Committee are evaluating the possibility of this championship acting as the first qualification event for the Mixed Doubles Event at the Youth Olympic Games 2028.”

The International Olympic Committee decision on the Youth Olympic Games qualification process is set to take place in early 2026.

Kevin Martin, Chair of the Local Organising Committee said, “On behalf of the Host Committee, the Saville Community Sports Centre (SCSC) and the University of Alberta, we are excited to welcome the best junior curling talent in the world. The sheets of ice will be busy again, hosting for the second time, in Edmonton at the beautiful SCSC.

“Mixed Doubles is a fast paced and exciting discipline that will enjoy huge popularity at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. To maintain the momentum gained after the Games and witness the growth of mixed doubles curling on the international stage is very important to us.”

The World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2026 is an open-entry event featuring junior mixed doubles teams from World Curling’s Member Associations. The format of the championship will be confirmed once the number of entries are confirmed. This event is aimed at increasing junior participation across nations and growing the number of athletes in future adult-level championships.
