Scotland top men’s rankings on day two
Two strong wins for Scotland — beating Czechia by 10-5 and then a 7-4 victory over Austria — continued their unbeaten record and now places them alone at the top of the men’s rankings on three wins and no losses.
Behind the Scots, five teams — Czechia, Italy, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland — sit on two wins and one loss.
By the tenth end of the game between Czechia and the Scots, Czechia had managed to cut back an early Scottish lead. The Scots were just one point ahead (6-5) when their skip Bruce Mouat scored four points with a hit to win the game by 10-5.
Later, Scotland secured a comfortable 7-4 win over Austria, thanks to two successive single-point steals in ends three and four.

Before losing to the Scots, Austria had faced Italy. In this game, the Italians had already built a 6-0 lead as the teams played the fourth end. Austrian skip Mathias Genner missed on a take-out attempt to give Italy a steal of three points, building their lead to 9-0. Following this, Austria conceded after six ends, with a final score of 10-1.
Italy skip Joel Retornaz said, “We’re two wins closer to the play-offs. It doesn’t matter if they come early in the week or late in the week, we just want enough wins to make it to the semis, and we go from there.”
Italy then lost to Czechia by 8-9 after an extra end in their evening game, a result that puts both teams into the second-place pile-up.
Beating Italy kept the Czechs in touch on the table, as their skip Lukas Klima confirmed, “We’re still in the mix.”
Sweden recovered from an opening session loss to win twice on Sunday — by 10-4 over Denmark and then by 5-3 over Germany.
In their game against Denmark, Sweden held a 5-3 lead by the sixth end, and when skip Niklas Edin removed a Danish stone, he scored three more points to improve his team’s lead to 8-3. Sweden then went on to win by 10-4.
After this game, Edin said, “We’re always slow starters. We have a terrible record in the first games, so drawing Switzerland first was tough. That was a better game there, though.”

Poland had a mixed day, beating Norway by 9-8 before going down by 3-9 to Switzerland, who had lost by 6-8 to Germany in their morning game.
At the end of Sunday’s play, Germany and Norway had recorded one win each, while Austria and Denmark were still looking for a first win.
Women’s competition
The women’s teams only had one draw on Sunday. After this third session of round-robin play, six teams are tied at the top of the rankings with two wins and one loss.
They are Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
Denmark were up against a Scotland team still looking for their first win, but by the time this game reached the tenth end, the Scots had a strong 7-4 lead.

After long consideration, Denmark’s skip Madeleine Dupont attempted a double take-out. However, the line was wrong, giving Scotland a steal of one point and an 8-4 victory: their first win so far.
Afterwards, Scotland skip Sophie Jackson said, “It’s certainly nice to get in the ‘win’ column. That’s the best game we’ve put together as a team so far. We’re on the upward trend for sure and we just want to build from that.”
Germany faced Czechia in this session. In the seventh end, Czechia held a 7-5 lead, but Germany’s fourth player Kim Sutor played a draw into the house to score three points and secure an 8-7 lead. The Germans then went on to win by 11-8.

Lithuania played Switzerland, who had been unbeaten so far. When the teams reached the tenth end, Lithuania held a 7-5 lead. In this end, Lithuania skip Virginija Paulauskaite fed her final stone through a gap to put pressure on the Swiss. Then, with the last stone of the end, Switzerland skip Corrie Huerlimann attempted a run double take-out to score the two points that would tie the game and force an extra end. However, she missed, and handed Lithuania a steal of three points and a 10-5 win.
Speaking about the tenth end shot later, Lithuania’s third Olga Dvojeglazova said, “We are confident for all our games, no matter the shot, because we always stay calm.”

Norway played Italy in this session, and by the fifth end, the Norwegians held a 5-2 lead. Their fourth player Kristin Skaslien then played a double take-out to score two more points and increase her team’s lead to 7-2. In the seventh end, a single-point steal forced Italy to concede and handed Norway a 9-2 win.
Following this game, Norway skip Marianne Roerviksaid, “We’re in good shape, and it’s nice to play well now. When you get an early lead, it’s always difficult to defend. I think if we play at our level, hopefully we’ll be fine.”
The fifth sheet of the session saw Sweden beat Türkiye by 7-3, with Sweden sealing the win with a steal of three.
B- Division
In the B- Division, Latvia lead the women’s rankings unbeaten on three wins, including two wins on Sunday — by 8-6 over England and then by 9-2 against Slovakia.
In the Men’s B- Division, after five sessions of play, Belgium and Finland are tied at the top of Group A, unbeaten with two wins. In Group B, unbeaten England (three wins, no losses) and Estonia (two wins, no losses) lead the way.
All A- Division games will be broadcast on the Curling Channel, however, there may be restrictions due to broadcast partner agreements.
