Norway and Sweden share top spot on day three
The round-robin programme at the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships 2025 has now passed the halfway mark, with most teams still in contention for the play-offs.
After five sessions, Norway and Sweden share the top spot, each with four wins and one loss.
Norway’s morning game against Türkiye went to an extra end, with the score tied at 4-4. In that end, Norway’s fourth player Kristin Skaslien drew her final stone into the house, for that all-important one point to secure a 5-4 win.
In their later game, Norway kept their winning ways, defeating Denmark by 8-6.
Sweden also had two wins on Monday. First, they beat Germany. In the seventh end with the score tied at 4-4, their skip Anna Hasselborg played a draw to score two points and take a 6-4 lead. After this, Sweden went on to win by 8-4. In their evening game, they beat Italy by 7-3.

Behind the joint leaders, three teams — Denmark, Lithuania and Switzerland — are tied on three wins and two losses.
Lithuania beat Czechia by 11-3, before going down to Scotland by 5-6.
Switzerland lost by 7-8 to Denmark in their first game before bouncing back with a win over Germany. This was a tight game, with the teams tied at 4-4 as they played the eighth end. Switzerland skip Corrie Huerlimann then managed to score three points with a draw to take a 7-4 lead and the Swiss went on to win by 8-4.
Afterwards, Switzerland’s Huerlimann said, “It feels good, coming back with a win after two tough losses. Hopefully we can continue the winning streak now.”
“Our team is playing super-well, they’re shooting well, playing the weights perfectly, so it’s so much fun being on the ice with the girls.”
Before losing to Norway, Denmark had beaten Switzerland. In the ninth end, Denmark skip Madeleine Dupont played a double raise take-out to score three points and take an 8-6 lead, which ultimately resulted in an 8-7 win.
On two wins, Germany, Italy, Scotland and Türkiye all stay in touch for the play-offs, but Czechia remain without a win so far.

Men’s competition
Scotland continued to dominate the men’s event, with two more wins on Monday — 9-4 over Denmark and then 8-4 over Switzerland. They continue to sit alone at the top of the rankings, undefeated with a record of five wins and no losses.
By the eighth end of their game against Denmark, the Scots led by 7-4. Their skip Bruce Mouat then played a raise hit to score two more points and increase his team’s lead to 9-4. The Danes then conceded.
Later in their game against Switzerland, a score of three in the third end gave the Scots a cushion that carried them to their 8-4 win.
Scottish skip Bruce Mouat said, “We feel pretty good… we feel like we’re 5-0. It’s just really a consistent performance that we need. We’ve been pretty consistent for the last eighteen months and we’re just trying to keep that going until February.”

Behind the Scots, Italy and Sweden share second place, on four wins and one loss.
In Monday’s play, the Italians followed up a 9-7 win over Germany with a 9-6 victory over Poland.
After his win over Germany, Italy skip Joel Retornaz said, “I enjoyed my team playing well today. We had a solid game against a strong team — reigning European champions. They gave us a hard time, but we came out on top.”

Sweden beat Norway by 9-5 and then Czechia by 7-2.
Behind these three teams, Poland and Switzerland share fourth place, with three wins.
The Poles beat Austria by 12-3 before their loss to Italy, while Switzerland beat Czechia by 10-9 after an extra end before their loss to Scotland.
Meanwhile, Denmark and Austria share the bottom spot, both still looking for their first wins.

B- Division
In the B- Divisions, Latvia stay ahead in the women’s event, with four wins and no losses, beating Poland by 7-5 on Monday. Behind them, Estonia and Slovenia lead the chasing pack, on three wins and one loss.
In their most recent wins, Estonia beat Hungary by 11-3, while Slovenia beat Finland by 11-5.
Both the men’s groups have clear unbeaten leaders after ten sessions. Belgium lead Group A while England sit at the top of Group B, each on four wins and no losses.
Belgium’s most recent win was a 12-2 win over Slovakia, while England beat Ukraine by 6-5.
All A- Division games will be broadcast on the Curling Channel, however, there may be restrictions due to broadcast partner agreements.
