Pre-Olympic Qualification Event 2025 to begin in Aberdeen, Scotland
The 2025–2026 competitive curling season kicks off this week with the Pre-Olympic Qualification Event 2025, taking place at Curl Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland, from 7–11 October.
This event offers National Olympic Committees (NOCs) that have not yet secured their spot at the Olympic Qualification Event (OQE) 2025 their final chance to advance and move one step closer to qualifying for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
This event will feature men’s and women’s competitions — there is no Pre-Olympic Qualification Event for mixed doubles.
The top three NOCs from this event will qualify for the OQE 2025, set to be held at Kelowna Curling Club, Kelowna, Canada in December.
The women’s field consists of Australia, Czechia, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania and Mexico.
The men’s teams participating in the event are Australia, Austria, Chinese Taipei, Denmark, New Zealand, Philippines and Poland.
Over the years, Curl Aberdeen has hosted numerous World Curling events, including the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships in 2009 and 2023, the World Junior Curling Championships in 2018, the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in 2021 and the World Mixed Curling Championships in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Playing format
Teams will compete in a single round robin within their gender and the teams that place first will qualify their NOC directly for the OQE 2025.
Teams ranked second and third will then play a qualification game in which the winner will qualify their NOC for the OQE 2025. The loser of these games will then play against the fourth ranked teams.
The winners of these games will be the final teams that qualify their NOC for the OQE 2025.
