Playing schedules confirmed for Olympic Qualification Event 2025
The Olympic Qualification Event 2025 is fast approaching and now, the playing schedules have been confirmed. This will be the final opportunity for National Olympic Committees (NOCs) who have not already qualified for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games to do so.
There are still two places up for grabs in the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles events at the Games, and who secures these places will be decided at Kelowna Curling Club in Kelowna, British Columbia, in December.
Men’s and Women’s event
Beginning on Friday 5 December, the men’s and women’s teams competing for the remaining two places will play seven round-robin sessions over six days.
These teams consist of the NOCs which ranked 9–13 based on the combined results from the 2024 and 2025 World Championships, along with the top three NOCs from the Pre-Qualification Event, which will be held in Aberdeen, Scotland in October.
Currently, in the women’s competition, Norway, United States, Japan, Türkiye and Estonia will compete at the event. In the men’s competition, United States, China, Japan, Netherlands and Korea will take part.
The first round-robin draw will take place on the evening of Friday 5 December, with the women’s teams first to take to the ice at 19:00. The men’s first round-robin session will take place on Saturday 6 December at 09:00.
Round-robin play will continue until Wednesday 10 December, when the final men’s session will take place at 09:00.
The first qualification games will then follow later that day, determining the first teams to qualify for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
The women’s team to place first after the round robin will face the second-placed team at 14:00 on Wednesday, and the men’s equivalent game will follow at 19:00. The winners of these games will be first to qualify for the Games.
The losing teams will have a second chance to secure their spot on Thursday 11 December, when they face the teams that placed third at the conclusion of the round robin. The women’s game will take place at 10:00 and the men’s at 15:00.
Mixed Doubles event
After a one-day break, competition will resume at Kelowna Curling Club with the Mixed Doubles event.
In this competition, any NOC’s mixed doubles team that qualified for the 2024 or 2025 World Championship, but did not yet qualify for the Olympic Winter Games through points earned at these championships or by hosting, can compete.
Teams are split into two groups. Group A consists of Austria, Czechia, Finland, Germany, Japan, Korea, Latvia and Türkiye, while Group B includes Australia, China, Denmark, Spain, France, Hungary, Netherlands and New Zealand.
Each team will play in seven round-robin games before the qualification games are determined. The first round-robin draw will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 13 December at 15:30.
The round robin will conclude on Wednesday 17 December at 18:00, with qualification games to follow the next day.
On Thursday 18 December, the teams that placed first in both groups play each other at 10:00. The winner of this game will earn the first available Olympic Games place. The second-placed teams from each group will also play on Thursday at 10:00.
That afternoon, the final qualification game will take place, where the winner of the second-placed game will face the loser of the first-place game. This will determine who earns the final spot at the Games.
