Andrew Ryan MBE joins World Curling Board as Independent Director
World Curling welcomes Andrew Ryan MBE, from England, to the World Curling Board as an Independent Director.
Ryan joins the Board following his time as the Executive Director of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) based in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 2006 until the end of 2024.
His career prior to that role saw him working as a national coach in England, Norway and France in the sport of badminton, then at the Badminton World Federation from 1994 to 2005 where he was Chief Operating Officer.
Ryan brings extensive experience of the Olympic movement to the Board, following almost 20 years as a member of the International Olympic Committee Programme Commission. He was involved in various Evaluation Commissions covering several editions of the Olympic and Youth Olympic Games, and was also a member of the Coordination Commission for the Commonwealth Games.
Ryan was awarded the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 Queen’s Honours List.
Andrew Ryan said, “I am delighted to join the Board of a sport that I believe has great development potential both in the countries where it is already well-established and importantly, in many new ones worldwide.”
Beau Welling, World Curling President said, “I’m thrilled that Andrew Ryan has joined World Curling as its first Independent Director.
“I first met Andrew in 2019, and we have found his seminal research in the ‘The Future of Global Sport’ as a guiding light as we have reworked the strategic plan for our federation. I am very honoured to have him join us.”
