Italy win gold at inaugural Booster Juice World Junior Mixed Doubles

Italy emerged victorious at the first-ever Booster Juice World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship which took place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from Tuesday 6 May until Sunday 11 May. The Italian duo of Lucrezia Grande and Stefano Spiller secured the gold medals with a convincing 8-2 win over Denmark in seven ends.

Korea claimed the bronze medals after their 6-5 win over Sweden.

It has been a very successful few weeks for Italian curling. Just last week, Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner won gold at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2025 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. In addition, Stefano Spiller skipped the Italian men’s team that claimed first place at the World Junior Curling Championships 2025 in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy in April.

Medal games

Italy displayed a dominant performance in their gold medal game against Denmark. After six ends, Italy already had a 5-2 lead against their opponent, and then sealed the victory with three additional points in the seventh end to secure the championship title.

The bronze medal game was much closer, but Korea remained in front throughout. By the eighth end, Korea were two points ahead and despite best efforts, Sweden could only score the one, handing Korea the 6-5 win and third place.

Semi-finals

After beating United States and Germany in their respective quarter-finals, Italy and Korea faced each other in the semis. Italy remained in control for the whole game, only allowing Korea to score one point in their sixth and final end. The Italians finished with a winning 9-1 score which secured their place in the gold medal game. This confirmed Korea’s route to the bronze medal game.

Denmark, after beating Switzerland in their quarter-final, faced Sweden in the other semi-final. Sweden, who had defeated Scotland in the quarters, kept the game tight. Trailing by just 6-5 in the seventh end, Sweden conceded three points to Denmark. Although Sweden responded with their own three points in the final end, it wasn’t enough, and a score of 9-8 let Denmark advance to the final, leaving Sweden to contest the bronze with Korea.
