Switzerland to play Scotland for BKT World Men’s Curling Championship 2025 title

Scotland will face Switzerland for the gold medal and the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship 2025 title following their semi-final wins on Saturday. To reach the final, Scotland beat hosts Canada by 7-4, while the Swiss were 7-3 winners over China.

To reach the semi-finals, Scotland had beaten defending champions Sweden by 8-7, while China beat Norway by the same score (8-7) in morning qualification game. By finishing first and second on the round-robin rankings, Canada and Switzerland had taken the direct route to the semi-finals.

Scotland steal two points to secure Final spot

In the seventh end of the game between Canada and Scotland, with Scotland leading by 4-2, Canada’s skip Brad Jacobs played a double take-out, to score two points and level the game at 4-4.

By the tenth end, the Scots led by 5-4 and when Canada’s skip Jacobs missed on an angle raise triple attempt, the Scots stole two points from the end, for a 7-4 lead. From this score, Scotland secured the win and now take their place in Sunday’s gold medal final.

Afterwards, Scotland’s skip Bruce Mouat said, “We haven’t had our best games at points during the week, but we had to bring our ’A’ game today for our two games, and we’ve done that, so I’m really looking forward to our game tomorrow.

“It was our plan to get hammer by the halfway points and give ourselves a chance in the last end, and that’s exactly what we did.”

Comfortable semi-final win for Switzerland

The other semi-final saw Switzerland play China and in the fifth end, already ahead by 2-1, Switzerland’s fourth player Benoit Schwarz-Van Berkel played a draw to score two points and improve Switzerland’s lead to 4-1.

By the ninth end, Switzerland led by 7-2 and when China’s skip Xu Xiaoming could only score one point with a hit, China conceded defeat and Switzerland won by 7-3.

After this win, Switzerland skip Yannick Schwaller said, “It’s great and it’s where we want to be. We knew we had it in us, but it still needed a bit of luck, so it’s awesome and we hope we can do well.

“I’m happy with how we performed. I felt we were a bit nervous in the first few ends, so tomorrow we need to be more solid and calm.”
