Canada and Switzerland secure direct route to semi-finals at BKT World Men’s 2025
With all twenty round-robin sessions now complete, the play-off scenario at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship 2025 is now finalised.
Two more victories in Friday’s play by Canada — beating Austria 8-2 in just seven ends, and then defeating United States by 8-3 in the evening session — mean that they have secured top place in the rankings and a direct route to Saturday afternoon’s semi-finals. Their top spot also means they will have their choice of stones and, crucially, last stone advantage.
In their final round-robin game, Switzerland cruised to a 9-5 win over Korea, after beating Czechia by 6-5 in a tight afternoon game, and these results earned them second place on the rankings and direct qualification to the other semi-final.

Behind this top two, China ended up in third place, following up a 10-1 morning win over Korea with a 9-2 win over Scotland in the evening session. This result means Scotland ranked fifth overall, and now face fourth-ranked Sweden in Saturday morning’s qualification game. The winner of this game will go on to face Canada in the semi-final. Meanwhile, third-ranked China will face Norway, who ranked sixth.
Defending champions Sweden recovered from a 10-8 morning loss to Italy to beat Norway by 6-4, and grab their fourth place in the play-off line-up.

Despite this loss, and largely thanks to their earlier 8-2 win over Austria, Norway now rank sixth, and will go on to play third-placed China in Saturday morning’s qualification games.
Behind these top six qualifiers, Czechia ranked seventh — on a six-win, six-loss record. Germany, Japan and Italy all shared a won five, lost seven record. United States were 4-8, while Austria beat Korea in the head-to-head decider, both on won one, and lost eleven records.
Both medals and Olympic Qualification Points are on the line for those teams progressing to the knock-out stage, so expect the intensity to rise!
