Kirsty Coventry becomes 10th President of the International Olympic Committee

Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe has been elected in the first round of voting as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee during the 144th IOC Session taking place in Costa Navarino, Greece.

World Curling President Beau Welling said, “I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Kirsty Coventry on becoming the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee. Mrs Coventry becomes the first female President, the first President from Africa and the youngest person since Pierre de Coubertin to hold the role.

“The World Curling family are excited to work with Mrs Coventry towards a brighter stronger future for the Olympic Movement and curling’s place in it.”

Mrs Coventry will succeed President Dr Thomas Bach, who’s term officially ends on Monday 23 June 2025. The President is elected by the IOC Members by secret ballot for a term of eight years.
