China win LGT World Women’s bronze
China secured the bronze medals at the LGT World Women’s Championship with a 9-4 victory over Korea.
After Korea blanked the first end, the teams exchanged single points until the sixth, when the game was tied at 2-2. Korea’s skip, Gim Eunji, drew her final stone into the four-foot to score two and take a 4-2 lead. However, China responded immediately in the seventh. With a stone positioned on the wing early in the end, Chinese skip Wang Rui executed a straightforward nose-hit to score two and level the game once again at 4-4.

China took control in the eighth end after an early missed hit by Korea allowed them to build a cluster of stones around the four-foot ring. Ultimately, Gim was forced to play an angled tap, but her stone rolled too far, giving China a crucial steal of one and their first lead of the game at 5-4.
In the ninth, Korea’s Gim attempted a thin double takeout but just missed, resulting in another stolen point for China, extending their lead to 6-4.
Korea’s last attempt to recover in the tenth end fell apart when Gim’s final hit went wrong, allowing China to steal three more points and secure the 9-4 victory.

This bronze medal marks the peak of a remarkable turnaround for the Chinese team in just two seasons. After winning the B-Division of the 2023 Pan Continental Championships, they claimed bronze in the 2024 A-Division, securing China’s place at the world championship for the first time since 2021. Their podium finish also marks China’s first world championship medal since 2011.
Reflecting on the achievement, skip Wang Rui said, “We’re happy. We’ve taken it step by step and we’ve worked hard. Now, we put this behind us and we start to work hard again in the future.”
The Chinese team consists of: skip Wang Rui, third Han Yu, second Dong Ziqi, lead Jiang Jiayi, alternate Su Tingyu and coach Zang Jialiang.
