World Curling Congress set to begin in Montreal, Canada

The curling spotlight will fall on Montreal, Canada this week as World Curling’s 2024 Congress gets underway. The World Curling Congress begins on Thursday 5 September and culminates with the Annual General Assembly on Sunday 8 September.

This will be the largest Congress to date — altogether around 230 delegates are due to attend, representing 56 of World Curling’s 74 Member Associations. Among those Member Associations attending, Jamaica, Pakistan and Puerto Rico, will be represented at the event for the first time.

Sunday’s Annual General Assembly is World Curling’s major forum for formal business, and this year, will feature an election process with four positions on World Curling’s Board becoming available.

Altogether thirteen candidates have put themselves forward for election. You can read more about each candidate here.

The Annual General Assembly will consider other formal business, including reports from President Beau Welling, the Board and Committees, as well as significant annual finance reporting. The 2024–2025 Annual Review will also be published at the Assembly.

Before Sunday’s Assembly, World Curling personnel, Member Association delegates, and external specialists will spend three days sharing a programme of workshops, presentations and Q&A sessions covering a wide range of topics, including how to make curling more attractive to young people; developments in broadcast and streaming; improving curling’s environmental sustainability; event hosting; and generating better communications throughout the World Curling community.

There will also be a progress update on the venue and operations for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

Throughout the event, various World Curling partners, for example stone manufacturer Kay’s of Scotland, foreign exchange partner Central FX, and ice-making and refrigeration partner ISS, will have opportunities to present to the delegates.

Details of all formal decisions made at the Annual General Assembly — including the results of elections — will be provided at the conclusion of the Assembly. A digital copy of the Annual Review will also be published on World Curling’s website.
