IOC elects 2030 and 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Games hosts and confirms curling’s programme inclusion

During the 142nd IOC Session in Paris, the International Olympic Committee elected the French Alps as the host of the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and Salt Lake City-Utah as the host of the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

French Alps 2030 will be the first edition of the Winter Games to fully integrate the principles of Olympic Agenda 2020 and 2020+5, as well as the new requirements on sustainability set by the IOC’s Olympic Host Contract.

Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 has the ambition to extend the transformative benefits of Salt Lake City 2002 to a new generation and the Games will be hosted in world class, 100 per cent existing or temporary venues, and will assist efforts to drive sustainable change in Utah.

President of World Curling Beau Welling said, “We are absolutely thrilled that curling continues to be included as a core sport in the Olympic and Paralympic programme. That we are seen as key partners in the Olympic Movement is a testament to the growth of our sport and community and the reliability of our championships since our reintroduction to the Games in 1998.

“The Games allow us to bring our wonderful sport to a massive audience every four years, where many viewers experience it for the first time. I first saw curling at the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games and completely fell in love with the sport. So, today’s announcement feels like an exciting personal full circle. I know that my experience in 2002 is one that many people are going to have over the next few editions of the Games, beginning with Milano Cortina 2026 and now with the French Alps 2030 and Utah 2034. It’s an exciting time to be part of the curling family.”
