Sweden win World Mixed Doubles Championship 2024
Brother and sister Isabella and Rasmus Wranaa won gold for Sweden at the World Mixed Doubles Championship, beating Estonia by 8-4 in Saturday afternoon’s final.
Estonia started with a steal of one in the first end, but the Swedes turned the tables after that, scoring two in the second end, and then stealing one more point in the third for a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth end, Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee played a hit-and-roll to score one point and reduce the Swedish lead to 3-2.
In the fifth, Sweden improved their lead to 5-2 with a score of two.
In the sixth end Estonia elected to use their power-play and bounced back with a score of two, to reduce the Swedish lead to 5-4.

Another hit for two by Sweden in the seventh end gave them a 7-4 lead. In the eighth, when a final ‘spinner’ shot by Kaldvee came up short, Sweden stole one more point, to win by 8-4.
Afterwards, Isabella Wranaa said, “This is my first senior world championship – I’m really, really happy. I struggled a bit in the first four ends, but Rasmus was pretty solid all game, and I started playing better towards the end of the game and that was the difference.”
Her brother Rasmus said, “It feels amazing. It’s definitely what we wanted. I aimed for this going into this week, and it’s so much fun to have done it. It’s been great and we’ve had a really good mood all week.”
Estonia were gracious in defeat. After the game, Harri Lill said, “We’re proud of ourselves for sure – great teamwork and even though we didn’t win the final, I think we put up a good fight.”
Marie Kaldvee added, “I think they played really well, and we just couldn’t make all the shots this time.”
She also said, “The main goal this week was to get as many Olympic points as possible. We’ve put up a good show, so we’re happy.”
