Switzerland please home crowd with two wins
Switzerland pleased the home crowd with two wins in Tuesday’s round-robin play at the LGT World Men’s Championship.
They followed up a 10-4 win over Japan in Tuesday’s morning session with a 9-7 defeat of Korea in the evening.
Other teams to have two wins on Tuesday were Canada and Germany.
Canada had to come from behind to beat New Zealand by 7-4 in the morning, but then had a six-end 8-2 defeat of United States in their evening game.

After this win, their skip Brad Gushue said, “We were pretty strong there. There were definitely different ice conditions than earlier in the day, and we picked up on it quicker than them.”
And looking forward to the rest of his campaign, he said, “Every game we know is going to be tough, but we’re in a good spot. We’ve beaten some good teams, and we have a lot of good teams to play yet. There’s still a lot of work to do.”
Canada now sit in second place on the table.
Before their evening loss, United States had beaten high-flying Italy by 5-4, and after that game, their skip John Shuster said, “It was a great game. We did what we needed to do to compete with a team of that calibre, executing and making the best of our opportunities. Our guys played great – both teams played great, it was a great game of curling. Every game that you win at this tournament is a step towards the play-offs. We knew if we won this one, we’d be in great shape.”

The Germans beat defending champions Scotland by 8-7 in the afternoon and then followed that up with a 6-4 victory over Czechia, and these results put the Germans into a clear third place on the rankings. They are behind leaders Sweden, who beat New Zealand by 11-7 in their only game on Tuesday, to sit unbeaten with six wins.

Earlier Czechia had beaten Korea by 10-6 and after that win, their skip Lukas Klima said, “It would be huge to make the play-offs – there are Olympic points too. It’s very hard, but we’ll be trying. We would really like to be in the qualification games.”
Norway were another team with an up and down day, beating Netherlands by 8-6 before losing to Japan by 4-7. Along with Czechia, they sit on three wins, and still have a chance to make the play-offs.

This was a second win of the campaign for Japan as they recovered from their earlier loss to the Swiss.
By contrast, at the foot of the table, Korea and New Zealand are still without a win.
