United States, Sweden and China join mixed doubles play-offs
The mixed doubles play-off picture at the Youth Olympics is 50 per cent confirmed as United States, Sweden and China join previously qualified Germany in the quarter-finals.
One play-off bracket is set, with Sweden facing China. The remaining quarter-finals, which will take place tomorrow (31 January) at 19:00, will be determined following the final two round robin sessions.
In the afternoon, United States defeated Ukraine, 9-1, to secure their play-off position, with an unbeaten record of four wins from Group B.

The pair are looking forward to the play-offs, and a chance to continue playing at the Games.
“It’s crazy [to qualify]! There are so many great teams here and it’s great to have the opportunity to keep playing, and having fun, staying relaxed, staying cool,” said American player Benji Paral.
Joking about their team dynamics he said, “Sometimes I have to sweep a little more than I want to, but that’s alright!”
Joining them from Group B are Sweden, who beat Qatar, 13-1, and have a record of three wins and one loss.
“It feels very good, it’s very nice [to qualify]!” said Sweden’s Jonatan Meyerson.
The two have only been playing together since November, but agree their team dynamics are great.
“We try to play our best and have good communication,” shared his teammate Maja Roxin.

In the last session of the day, China, from Group C, claimed their spot in the quarter-finals with an undefeated record so far. The Chinese defeated Türkiye 13-4 and play New Zealand in their final round robin game in the morning.
