Statement: Recast and the World Curling Federation
Following the surprising and difficult news from Recast on Friday (22 September) announcing their appointment of administrators, the World Curling Federation will now be evaluating several options for a new streaming/OTT partner for the 2023–2024 season.
We are deeply sympathetic to the situation our partners at Recast now find themselves in and want to thank the team for all their dedication and support in helping us grow curling on their platform.
World Curling moved the live streaming of our championships to Recast following a series of issues surrounding the Content ID system employed by YouTube and our broadcast partner agreements.
The Curling Channel on Recast launched at the beginning of the 2021–2022 season with live streamed coverage from the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships in November 2021. In that season, the coverage of five more World Curling events were made available on the platform.
In the 2022–2023 season the Federation streamed exclusively on the platform. The Curling Channel grew to over 46,000 followers and saw over 175,000 games purchased and 139,051 hours of curling watched.
We will continue to monitor the situation and endeavour to provide any additional information as soon as we are able.
