Youth Olympic Games qualification

The Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 will consist of two mixed events.

The first event is a 16 team mixed team event. The second event will be a 24 team mixed doubles event. Athletes do not need to compete in both events.

To be eligible to participate in the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024, athletes must have been born between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2009.

A National Olympic Committee (NOC) is only eligible to qualify for the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 if they enter at least one team into the World Junior Curling Championships (WJCC) OR World Junior-B Curling Championships (WJBCC) during the qualification period OR has participated in the 2022 World Curling Academy Youth Training Programme. 

Mixed Team Qualification

Each team must consist of two female and two male players.

NOCs will be awarded points based on the finishing position of their Member Associations at the World Junior Curling Championships and World Junior-B Curling Championships during the competition season of 2022-2023.

The points from the junior women’s and junior men’s events at the World Junior Curling Championships and World Junior-B Curling Championships will be added together to create the YOG Ranking List detailed below.

14 Mixed Team quotas will be allocated based on the YOG Ranking List, following the distribution of quotas per qualifying zone below:

The remaining two quotas will be allocated to the highest ranked NOCs not yet qualified on the YOG Ranking List regardless of qualifying zone.

Mixed Doubles Qualification

The allocation of quota places is based on the YOG Ranking List as described above.

18 Mixed Double Team quotas will be allocated based on the YOG Ranking List, following the distribution of quotas per qualifying zone below:

  • Three best ranked NOCs from Americas
  • Two best ranked NOCs from Asia (excluding *West-Asia)
  • One best ranked NOC from the *West-Asia region
  • One best ranked NOC from Oceania
  • Nine best ranked NOCs from Europe
  • One best ranked NOC from Africa
  • One team from the NOC of the Host Country

*NOCs that are included in the West-Asia region: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syrian Arab Republic, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

The remaining six quotas will be allocated to the highest ranked NOCs not yet qualified on the YOG Ranking List regardless of qualifying zone.

National Federation Representing Great Britain

The three National Federations from Great Britain – England, Scotland and Wales – are all eligible to participate in World Curling Championships. However, by an agreement between the Curling Federations of Scotland, England and Wales, only Scotland will be allocated qualifying points for Great Britain.
