Play-off fields set at World Mixed Doubles and World Seniors 2025

Mixed Doubles

After eighteen sessions of round-robin play, the play-off picture at this year’s World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship has now been set.

Olympic champions Italy have gone through their nine-game Group A programme undefeated, finishing off with a surprisingly tense extra-end 8-5 win over Netherlands. Now, they go straight to the semi-finals where they will face either Canada or Estonia.

In Group B, Australia sealed their place at the top of the table with an 8-3 win over Spain in the morning session. They went on to beat New Zealand by 7-5 and now take the direct route to the semi-finals. They will play either Scotland or the United Sates, who will face each other in Friday morning’s qualification game.

Scotland sealed second place behind Italy in Group A, with an extra end 8-7 win over Canada that went all the way to an umpire’s measure on the last stone before a decision was made. This result meant that Canada finished third in Group A.

Meanwhile, to reach the play-offs by placing third in Group B, United States beat Spain by 10-2 in their final round-robin game. Estonia finished second in Group B after their extra end win on Thursday evening. They were beaten by Norway 10-9 in their morning game but then went on to defeat Czechia by 6-5.

As the only team not to record a win throughout the round-robin programme, Spain are now relegated to next season’s World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event.

With the two candidates for direct relegation decided — Netherlands and Spain — the four other teams now involved in relegation games have been determined.

Denmark, who finished eighth in Group A will play Türkiye, who were ninth in Group B, while China, who placed ninth in Group A will face Czechia, who finished eighth in Group B. The winners of these games will stay in next year’s A-Division, while the losers will go to the World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event.
