Uijeongbu, Korea to host LGT World Women’s Curling Championship 2025

The LGT World Women’s Curling Championship 2025 will be held in the Uijeongbu Arena, in Uijeongbu, Korea from 15–23 March 2025.

Uijeongbu is the 23rd largest city out of 31 cities of Gyeonggi-do, 20km north of Seoul and part of the Seoul Metropolitan Area. It has an approximate population of 470,000.

While this is the first time an international curling event will be held in Uijeongbu, this will be the second time Korea has hosted the World Women’s Curling Championship, with the first time being 2009 in Gangneung.

Korea has hosted 13 World Curling championships, as well as the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympic Games. Korea most recently hosted the 2024 World Wheelchair Curling Championship and Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Gangneung.

In 2025, not only will the world championship title be on the line, but also the final qualifying points for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. By the end of the event, seven countries will have qualified for the women’s competition in Milano Cortina, joining hosts, Italy. The final two Olympic berths will be decided at the Olympic Qualification Event, scheduled for December 2025.

“Korea have shown over a number of years that they are excellent partners in hosting World Curling events and I’m positive that they, along with the local organising committee, will host an outstanding event.”

Korea Curling Federation’s president Sangho Han said, “We are honoured to host the 2025 LGT World Women’s Curling Championship. We will work hard to ensure that it stands out as a spectacular celebration of curlers from all around the world. Welcome to all who love curling!”

Mayor of Uijeongbu City, Dong-Keun Kim said, “We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to host the 2025 LGT World Women’s Curling Championship in our city. We are pleased to use this competition as an opportunity to publicise the ice skating and curling infrastructure facilities of our city to the world and Uijeongbu will take the lead in popularising the sport of curling. We, the people of Uijeongbu City, hope that the 2025 LGT World Women’s Curling Championship will become a place of harmony where all players, officials and Uijeongbu citizens become one, thank you.”
