Lacombe, Canada to host Pan Continental Curling Championships 2024
The third edition of the Pan Continental Curling Championships will take place at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex and the Lacombe Curling Club in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada, from 27 October to 2 November 2024.
Lacombe is located in central Alberta and is home to 14,000 inhabitants. The city has a rich curling history as its first rink was built in 1900. The Lacombe Curling Club was founded not long after, in 1920.
The city has great experience is hosting major curling events, including provincial championships and a former World Curling event, the America’s Challenge, in 2021.
The Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex will hold the competitions of the A-Division, while the Lacombe Curling Club will host the B-Division events. The two venues are physically connected with a combined capacity of 2,100.
World Curling Head of Competitions Eeva Roethlisberger said, “We are very excited to take the third edition of the Pan Continental Championships to Lacombe.
“The great facility complex provides a perfect venue to hold both divisions, as fans and players can walk freely between the two venues without needing to go outside. We are very much looking forward to this event and experiencing the hospitality of the local organisers.”
Local Organising Committee Chair Darren Moulding said, “Lacombe is a well-located curling hotbed, with a rich curling tradition. The city is a friendly, generous place. The curling rink has all of the modern amenities you could ask for and the community strongly supports all kinds of sporting events.
“We have a wonderful organising committee that is committed to bringing this world-class event to life.”
World Curling’s Member Associations voted in September 2021 that two zones — the America’s and Pacific-Asia zone — will merge as one qualifying championship to ensure equal opportunities for all associations. The first edition of the Pan Continental Curling Championships took place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, while the second one was held in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
