World Men’s play-offs set

Switzerland sat out Friday evening’s final session of round-robin play at the BKT Tires & OK Tire World Men’s Curling Championship, being staged in Ottawa, Canada. They were confident in the knowledge that, no matter what happened on the ice, their eleven-win round-robin performance had given them top spot on the rankings and a direct place in Saturday evening’s semi-finals.

However, except for Italy, who knew they had finished sixth, all the other qualifiers were looking to this session’s results to determine their final rankings, and their future opponents.

Canada beat Sweden by 8-5, while Scotland were 10-4 winners over New Zealand. Norway won over Türkiye 6-4 which, when combined with the other results, meant that Scotland finished in second place on the rankings. They join Switzerland on the direct route to the semi-finals, to take place tomorrow at 19:00. Norway ranked third overall, and now face sixth-placed Italy in the qualification round tomorrow at 14:00, while simultaneously, fourth-placed Canada play fifth-placed Sweden in a re-staging of Friday night’s last round-robin game.
