Great Britain men and China women win FISU World University Games

Great Britain men and China women claimed World University Games gold on Saturday (21 January) at the Saranac Lake Civic Centre in New York, United States.

The reigning World Junior champions from Great Britain skipped by James Craik, defeated hosts United States, 5-1, in the final.

In the women’s gold medal game, Korea’s team skipped by Ha Seungyoun led 4-1 at the fourth end. China’s Han Yu proceeded to steal four consecutive points on way to a 5-4 victory.

Bronze medal action

In the semi-finals, Korea defeated Great Britain 10-4 while China beat United States, 5-4. The bronze medal game saw United States women, skipped by Delaney Strouse win bronze with a 7-3 win against Great Britain.

In the men’s semi-finals, Great Britain topped Canada by 6-4 and United States beat Switzerland, 6-3. In a tight bronze medal game, Canada’s Owen Purcell stole the win after Switzerland was heavy on their final draw, 3-2.
