Japan stay undefeated
A well-played power-play in the eighth end resulted in three points for Japan to win their game against Norway by 10-8.
Japan are now the only undefeated team in this group.
Afterwards, Japan’s Tanida Yasumasa reflected on the game: “We are not very happy. We had lots of mistakes. We were just trying to focus our performance.”
Speaking of stealing in Norway’s power-play end, he added, “That was a very key point for us. We just tried to score.”
“We have three games left and we focus on the next round-robin session and we don’t think about the semi-final yet,” he added.
Post-game reaction from Germany's Klaudius Harsch
“It feels amazing! It’s incredible how much winning can change the mood. The last couple of days have been quite tough, we found every way to lose a game that we could possibly imagine. And now we finally put it together.
We’ve got a chance now again of at least earning our spot at next year’s worlds and try again there hopefully. I’m glad we finally won.
We just made more shots and didn’t hurt ourselves with stupid mistakes, put everything to use that we learned in the first five games. It puts a giant amount of pressure off our backs.”
Switzerland victorious
Switzerland and Austria went into the eighth end with a 7-5 score, Switzerland leading and having last-stone advantage.
Switzerland eventually ran Austria out of stones.
This was the Swiss team’s fourth win at the event, out of six games. Austria dropped four games and picked up two wins so far.
Germany pick up first win
After a big score of three in the sixth, Germany stole two in the seventh to go up, 9-4, against Sweden.

The second winner of the evening: Türkiye
Türkiye were leading their game by 9-4 after six ends against Spain.
The Turkish team scored a single on their power-play in the seventh, to go up, 10-4. At this point, Spain conceded the game.

An early finish
England scored a single on their power-play in the sixth end and were trailing, 7-1.
United States used their own power-play in the seventh, gave up a steal of one to be up 7-2.

This was United States’ fifth victory out of six games, while England are still looking for their first win.
Two for Spain on power-play
After giving up a steal of three in the fifth end, Spain used their power-play in the sixth. They scored two and narrowed the gap to five points.

All square on Sheet C
Türkiye and Spain are tied at 2-2 after three ends of play.

A familiar face

Norway victorious
Norway were up by 7-5, going into the eighth end, having last-stone advantage. As Switzerland couldn’t set up a steal, this is the final result.
After the game, Norway’s Martine Roenning talked about their plan going into the eighth end. She said, “It was basically just to eliminate the red stones I think.”
“Giving them the least opportunities possible,” her teammate, Mathias Braenden added.
Talking about the ice conditions, Martine said, “It curled a bit more, but I think we managed it quite well.”
Two points for Switzerland
The Swiss team put two on the board with their power-play in the seventh end. They are now trailing Norway, 5-7, playing the eighth.
Handshakes on three more sheets
A successful power-play end resulted in three points for Japan in the seventh end, and they were leading the game by 9-2. Austria conceded the game at this point.
A similar scenario played out next door, in the Spain v Sweden game. The Swedish put three on the board with their power-play in the seventh and were leading by 11-2. It is the final score of the game.
Türkiye stole the sixth, the seventh and the eighth end against England, and won by 8-2.
After their win, Türkiye’s Bilal Omer Cakir said, “This game was very important and we hope we can continue like this.”
Our first winner of the day: United States
United States showed strong form this morning and won by 7-1 over Germany.
United States are now on four wins and one loss, while Germany are still looking for their first W of the week.
After the game, Korey Dropkin said, “We were trying to get a good feel of the ice, and get our draw weight. It’s kind of the name of the game here.”
Cory Thiesse added, “It was a little bit of an adjustment to the ice this morning, they scratched the rocks last night, so there was a little bit more curl today. The speed wasn’t quite as fast as it was yesterday, so I think just trying to figure out how we can pick up on that a little bit quicker.”
What a power-play end, Norway!
Norway played a textbook power-play end in the sixth to score five against Switzerland.
The Norwegians are now leading the game by 7-3, playing the seventh.
Now it’s time for the Swiss power-play!

Three-way measure!
A three-way measure was needed in the Switzerland v Norway game to decide that the Swiss team scored a single after a highly exciting end!
The teams are tied at 2-2 at the break.
What a sweep by Michael Opel!
England’s Lina Opel had to draw to the one-foot to score a single against Türkiye in the third end.
Her dad, Michael Opel had to sweep it hard, which he managed to do, even though he dropped his glasses along the way!
The effort resulted in a single point to tie the game at 2-2 after three ends.
Japan steal a single
Austria gave up a single steal against Japan in the third end when Hannah Augustin’s take-out attempt didn’t work out the way she planned it.
Japan are now leading the game by 3-1 after three ends.
Sweden's flying start
Sweden scored three points in the first end against Spain, and then stole three more in the second when Oihane Otaegi’s take-out attempt didn’t work out.
Sweden are now leading the game by 6-0, playing the third.
Time travel with Korey Dropkin
United States’ Korey Dropkin is one of the most experienced mixed doubles players currently on the ice.
Not only did he pick up bronze medals in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games’ mixed doubles competition with Russia’s Marina Verenich in 2012, but he already represented United States at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2015 with that-time partner Sarah Anderson.

United States are currently leading their game by 2-0 against Germany, playing the second end.
England start with a steal
England’s father-daughter duo stole a single point in the first end, when Türkiye’s Dilsat Yildiz came up short with her last draw attempt.
