Oestersund, Sweden will host the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships 2022, from Saturday 19 to Saturday 26 November at the Oestersund Arena.

Oestersund – home to over fifty thousand people – is located in Jamtland, the middle of Sweden and is the region’s cultural and economic centre.

The city is recognised as one of Sweden’s best organisers of sports events. It previously hosted the world cups in biathlon and cross-country skiing, as well as the qualifying tournament for the Paralympic Games in parahockey.

Oestersund has hosted six World Curling events since 1999: the World Junior Curling Championships in 1999, 2008 and 2012, the World Junior-B Championships in 2017, as well as the World Mixed Doubles Championship and World Senior Championships in 2018.

The Oestersund Arena opened in December 2013 and is a modern, flexible and accessible building. It hosts two large halls for ice hockey and figure skating, gymnastic halls and a restaurant.

The B-Division will be held at the Oestersund Curling Hall, which will use five of its six sheets for the competition. It is home to the Oestersund Curling Club, the home club of three-time world men’s champions, team Peja Lindholm.

World Curling Federation President, Kate Caithness, said: “We are delighted to take another major event to Sweden next season. The excellent facilities in Oestersund will be the perfect location for the European championships.

“We look forward to working once more with the Swedish Curling Association who together with the experienced Local Organising Committee will be fully committed to ensuring the success of the championships.”

Swedish Curling Association President, Michael Marklund, said: “We are proud to once again have the honor of hosting the European Curling Championships in Sweden. This time it is in beautiful Oestersund located in northern Sweden.

“A big thanks to WCF, the City of Oestersund and the Oestersund Curling Club who make this event possible. I am sure that it will be a top-class event for all of you. We warmly welcome you all in November to the European championships.”

Local Organising Committee President, Per Bergman, said: “We are happy and proud to once again work with WCF in a major championship and that WCF chose to locate the European Curling Championships 2022 in Oestersund.

“We will do everything we can to make players, leaders and audiences feel welcome in our city.”
