World Senior Championships begin in Geneva

After three sessions of play in the World Seniors Curling Championships 2022, Canada top the table in men’s Group A with two wins and no losses.

They beat Finland by 6-3 in the opening session, and then followed that up with a 12-3 victory over Slovakia in session three.

Other early winners in Group A were United States, who beat Turkey by 7-3 in their only game so far.

In Group B, Ireland opened with a 9-2 victory over England, but later lost by 4-6 to Hungary in their second game. Ireland are the only team to have played twice in this group.

In their only games so far, Czech Republic beat Switzerland by 9-3, while Sweden were 7-6 winners over Norway.

Denmark top the rankings in Group C, thanks to two wins – by 12-2 over Nigeria, and by 7-6 against Latvia.

In this group, Belgium beat New Zealand by 7-5 in their only game so far, while Germany, who have also only played once so far, beat Scotland by 5-4.

In the women’s event, Scotland opened their campaign in Group A with an 8-2 win over Canada, that included a score of four in the seventh end.

Denmark also had an opening win in this group beating Czech Republic by 6-5. In session three, Ireland beat Sweden by 7-3. Italy is the only team in this group yet to play.

In the only women’s Group B game to take place so far, United States won over England by 11-4.
