Hungary men forced to withdraw from World Junior-B Curling Championships after positive COVID-19 case

The Hungarian junior men’s team have been forced to withdraw from the World Junior-B Curling Championships 2022 taking place in Lohja, Finland after confirmation of a positive COVID-19 case within the team.

Following a positive antigen test result, the impacted individual was isolated and confirmatory PCR testing took place.

After consultation with Finnish Health Authorities, the individual and the other team members — who were determined to be close contacts — will now undergo a required quarantine period in Lohja.

The team will receive further PCR testing at the end of their quarantine period. If these tests return negative results and the individuals show no further symptoms, then they will be cleared and able to return home.

Additional guidance is being provided by the Finnish Health Authority throughout the remainder of the competition and increased antigen testing of the field will be introduced should it be required.

In the competition, Hungary’s individual games will be designated as Did Not Start (DNS) which will automatically give their opponents the victory. While their overall competition status will be marked as Did Not Finish (DNF) as per Rule C9 of The Rules of Curling and Rules of Competition.
